SPUC Scotland was founded to uphold the principle of respect for human life, in particular the life of the unborn child. The society's constitution was, and remains, non-religious, endorsing the recognition by the world community in the 1959 United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child that the child "needs special safeguards and care, including appropriate legal protection, before as well as after birth." It further endorses the internationally enshrined right to life, laid down in the International Declaration on Human Rights as the first and fundamental of all human rights. At SPUC Scotland we believe to be pro-life is to accept that every human life is of equal value, regardless of physical or mental characteristics or particular stage of life development, or even circumstances in life. SPUC Scotland thanks all our supporters who sponsored the Walk for Life this summer Ian Murray, former Director of SPUC Scotland, completed a walk for life in July to help raise funds for the work of the organisation. Ian stepped out to complete the sponsored walk along the Clyde and Forth canal route. He said of the task: "The biggest difficulty was waiting for a clear day to undertake the walk but eventually on 12th July the sun came out and I was able to get walking for life!." Thanks to all our supporters across Scotland who have sponsored the walk to help raise much needed funds for SPUC Scotland.
